FEAT. VIOLA KAMP Wallpaper, Monitor, Video "The Opening" 04:00 (2013)

Nothing is as it seems. This assertion is central to the art figure Viola Kamp, who has not only been conducting undercover investigations as an agent since 2011, but also puts herself on stage as an artist. With her first live performance in a solo show (Komplex 200X, Berlin 2013), her artistic career as a double accelerated. In doing so, she follows a performative strategy to define her artistic role and identity. The dazzling personality plays a double game vis-à-vis the usual presentation patterns in the art business - a tightrope walk between staged complicity and tricky withdrawal. Categories and codifications are playfully circumvented by simultaneously fulfilling and breaking expectations. The fiction Viola Kamp becomes a projection surface to examine the mechanisms of artistic self-staging and marketing.
