An agent takes up quarters in the orangery of the former Putbus Castle to do her training. "No day is like the other" is the motto above the ironically staged sports equipment - a CIA slogan for agent recruitment ... The arrangement describes an exemplary on-site operation. The light boxes in the left wing explain the tasks of a four-day plan: position, target time, deployment, and change. Mental rehearsal action on a drawing desk targets development spirals in the right wing, which look like shooting targets.

Gone underground in a position of observation: the international art fairs, galleries, museums and collections are wandered through in order to gain a multi-perspective picture of the art field and to examine one's own role. "Good business is the best art" stated Andy Warhol already 50 years ago. The artist book resulting from the research looks at the role of the artist in a globalized art market at the beginning of the 21st century as a fictional scenario - an ironic mix of documentary photos, performance video stills and notebook texts. The external signs of success, which enjoy consensus and the greatest attention in a broad public, are taken at their word and spun into a fictional biography. Examined for their value, hype and crisis appear as two sides of the same coin. In the system of commodity values, the successful artist individual also becomes a super label ...
DIE VIOLA-KAMP-STORY
DIE VIOLA-KAMP-STORY
Published by taz, Die Tageszeitung Berlin
On the occasion of the taz daily edition of September 7, 2005
For the national taz edition of 07.09.05, all photos were replaced by pictures and text lines of an own photo reportage in direct cooperation with the editorial office. The smuggled-in pictures and subtitles appear documentary, but at second glance deny any logical connection to the editorial text. The Viola Kamp Story follows in the footsteps of an established player in the art world. Like a mimicry, the photos and video stills suggest hidden connections to the editorial articles and their description of the state of the world. The titles of the images reveal the background of an undercover existence, which is, however, never fully revealed.
